Prize is shared for the first time since 2018/19 as Son becomes the first Asian player to claim the accolade

The Castrol Golden Boot award was shared between Son Heung-min and Mohamed Salah after both players ended the 2021/22 season on 23 goals.

Salah had led the race going into the final day, but despite coming on as a substitute and scoring in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Son pulled level with the Egyptian thanks to a double in Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-0 victory at Norwich City.

The award is shared for the first time since 2018/19, when Salah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane all finished on 22 goals apiece.

Liverpool star Salah becomes only the fourth player to claim the Golden Boot for a third time, after Premier League Hall of Fame inductees Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, and Harry Kane.

Salah also claimed the Playmaker of the Season award for the most assists, a feat matched only by Kane last season.

Spurs star Son Heung-min scored 23 goals, beating his previous best total of 17 in 2020/21

Son becomes the first Asian to win the prize and only the third Spurs player to claim the award after Teddy Sheringham and Kane.

Cristiano Ronaldo finished third on 18 goals after missing the 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace due to injury.
