Man Utd confirm appointment of Ten Hag

Dutch coach to leave Ajax and move to Old Trafford in the summer after agreeing a three-year deal

Manchester United have announced Erik ten Hag as their new manager from the end of this season.

The 52-year-old Dutchman will move to Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer, having signed a contract that will take him through until June 2025, with the option of a further year.

The move is subject to work visa requirements.

“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead,” he told the club’s official website.

“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.”

Ten Hag, who will become the ninth Dutchman to manage in the Premier League, has been head coach at Ajax since 2017, leading the Amsterdam side to two Eredivisie titles as well as a run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

He started his coaching career at Go Ahead Eagles before moving to Bayern Munich’s reserve team and then Utrecht.

Ten Hag will take charge of his first Premier League match when the 2022/23 season kicks off on the weekend of 6 August 2022.

He will find out who his opening opponents are when the fixtures for the 2022/23 Premier League season are announced at 09:00 BST on Thursday 16 June 2022.
